Error when trying to add an Archive Mailbox in Office 365 – User is not within a valid server write scope

When attempting to add an Archive Mailbox to a user in Office 365 you may come across the following error.

The following error occurred during validation in agent ‘Windows LiveId Agent’: ‘Unable to perform the save operation. ‘John, John’ is not within a valid server write scope.

If this error occurs after trying to create the Archive you can resolve it by modifying the msExchRemoteRecipientType value in ADSIEdit. The default value is 4. The value needs to be set to 3 for the Archive to be enabled successfully.
