Telnet or SSH if unable to login to an HP StorageWorks P2000 MSA – “Unable To Authenticate Login, Try Again”

Tips to try if you’ve ever tried to login to your HP StorageWorks MSA and received the following error: Unable to Authenticate Login, Try again.

**Assumption is that you can ping the device either by IP or by FQDN. This assumption is based on the fact that you actually get to the login screen and get the error.

Try both http and https to gain access. If that doesn’t work go to #2.

If you know you are using the correct login and password try the default login of admin/!admin

If that does not work you can actually telnet or SSH into the system. There is no port needed with telnet. Just telnet xx.xx.xx.xx

You will most likely have two controllers with HP MSA. So first telnet to Controller A and type the following command restart mc b You will receive a message that says you will lose connection. Type Y and hit enter.

Wait until you can once again access Controller B. Then telnet into that controller.

From Controller B type the following restart mc a You will receive a message that says you will lose connection. Type Y and hit enter.

Hope this helps!
