We will be creating the system from a template we built and uploaded to Azure (<a title=\"Managing vhd\u2019s and files on a Windows Azure Storage account\" href=\"https:\/\/pipe2text.com\/?page_id=1810\">Uploading files to Azure<\/a>). You can also build a system with the default templates pre-built by Microsoft. The pre-built Windows Server VM templates include Windows Server 2012 Datacenter and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: inline;\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/pipe2text.com\/wp-content\/plugins..\/..\/uploads\/media\/creating-a-windows-2008-r2-virtual-machine-in-windows-azure\/image1.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To begin the process of creating a new VM in Azure click on the \u201cnew\u201d icon in the lower left corner of the Azure console<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: inline;\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/pipe2text.com\/wp-content\/plugins..\/..\/uploads\/media\/creating-a-windows-2008-r2-virtual-machine-in-windows-azure\/image2.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Click on Compute -&gt; Virtual Machine -&gt; From Gallery<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: inline;\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/pipe2text.com\/wp-content\/plugins..\/..\/uploads\/media\/creating-a-windows-2008-r2-virtual-machine-in-windows-azure\/image3.png\" width=\"698\" height=\"235\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For this article we will select \u201cMy Images\u201d. Here you can also select Platform Images to get the pre-built MS images if that is your preference. Select the image of your choice and hit the -&gt; in the lower right hand corner.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: inline;\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/pipe2text.com\/wp-content\/plugins..\/..\/uploads\/media\/creating-a-windows-2008-r2-virtual-machine-in-windows-azure\/image4.png\" width=\"535\" height=\"384\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Name the system to your liking, select the size. Your options are as follows:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: inline;\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/pipe2text.com\/wp-content\/plugins..\/..\/uploads\/media\/creating-a-windows-2008-r2-virtual-machine-in-windows-azure\/image5.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Add a username and password in and click the -&gt; in the lower right hand corner.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: inline;\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/pipe2text.com\/wp-content\/plugins..\/..\/uploads\/media\/creating-a-windows-2008-r2-virtual-machine-in-windows-azure\/image6.png\" width=\"536\" height=\"386\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Add the DNS name of the system. Keep in mind this will need to be somewhat unique as it gets assigned the .cloudapp.net domain so there is a chance a generic name will already be in use. Choose your Region\/Network\/Affinity Group (creating an Affinity Group) and click the -&gt; in the lower right hand corner.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Creating a Windows Azure Affinity Group\" href=\"https:\/\/pipe2text.com\/?page_id=1715\">Creating Azure Affinity Groups<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Assigning a Windows Azure Virtual Machine to an Affinity Group\" href=\"https:\/\/pipe2text.com\/?page_id=1723\">Assigning a VM to an\u00a0Azure Affinity Group<\/a><\/p>\n<p>**The screenshot has been blanked out intentionally**<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: inline;\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/pipe2text.com\/wp-content\/plugins..\/..\/uploads\/media\/creating-a-windows-2008-r2-virtual-machine-in-windows-azure\/image7.png\" width=\"535\" height=\"385\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This system will be part of an availability set. Below is a screenshot of the description of an availability set.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: inline;\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/pipe2text.com\/wp-content\/plugins..\/..\/uploads\/media\/creating-a-windows-2008-r2-virtual-machine-in-windows-azure\/image8.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Increasing system availability in Azure by using Availability Sets\" href=\"https:\/\/pipe2text.com\/?page_id=1737\">Azure Availability Sets<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Create an appropriate name for the Availability Set that will link these 2 systems. Your call on leaving Remote Powershell enabled or d<a id=\"_GoBack\"><\/a>isabled.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: inline;\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/pipe2text.com\/wp-content\/plugins..\/..\/uploads\/media\/creating-a-windows-2008-r2-virtual-machine-in-windows-azure\/image9.png\" width=\"536\" height=\"383\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Click the -&gt; in the lower right hand corner. The new VM process will kick off.
