After moving VirtualCenter database update manager displays an error

After moving VirtualCenter 5.1 database to a different SQL server the Update Manager component displays an error stating the following:

There was an error connecting to vmware vsphere update manager {vcenterserver1:443}

Database temporarily unavailable or has network issues

Opening up ODBC thru administrative tools -> data sources does not show a System DSN for “UMDB”. It will only display the VCDB connection

To display the “UMDB” connection run the following command in start -> run

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe

This will display the 32 bit ODBC connection and from here you will be able to repoint the Update Manager database to the proper SQL server
